Project summary

The project “Blue4EU” aims to educate young people about the defining historical moments in Romania and Italy of totalitarian regimes, resistance against these regimes, transition times that led to poverty and economic migration, and EU integration processes. Using the transformative and educational power of oral history, storytelling, co-design and co-creation methods and tools, Blue4EU will provide intergenerational and mutual learning contexts for young people in Romania and Italy with the general objectives of 1) engaging young people in promoting the EU fundamental rights and combating racism and intolerance through the oral history and storytelling processes, and developing advocacy campaigns and community projects; 2) raising awareness of young people about the EU fundamental rights through the power of oral history, personal storytelling, and intergenerational connection; 3) combating historical distortion about Romania’s communist regime and Italy’s EU integration and enhance young people’s critical thinking and resilience towards the current extremist and anti-EU movements. Blue4EU aims to engage 1000 + young people (13-25 years old) from Romania and Italy in oral history and storytelling processes and advocacy campaigns or community intervention projects; to involve 160+ witnesses from Romania and Italy who will tell their stories of resistance towards totalitarian regime, of resilience in transition times, and of hope during the EU integration moments to young people; to activate 100+ secondary teachers, in Romania, in a pilot activity, to explore their potential of developing intergenerational raising awareness projects; to support 60+ youth-led and past-connected community intervention projects and advocacy campaigns which will engage over 1200 educational multipliers and relevant local stakeholders, in Romania and Italy, to further promotethe EU fundamental rights, values and combat racism and intolerance.
